version 0.48, november 2010

Introduction

The NewShips set is a collection of new ship and vessel models for Transport Tycoon (de Luxe) to be used with TTDPatch and OpenTTD. Its ship models are usable in all three major climates (temperate, arctic, sub-tropical).

Originally released in October 2002, the NewShips set was the very first new vehicle set for the Transport Tycoon game, adding greater variety and better cargo suitability than the original ship models could offer.

Since version 0.48, the NewShips set supports a variety of new cargoes, e.g., those from the ECS or the FIRS industry sets.

Installation

The NewShips set comes in a DOS and in a Windows version ("newships.grf" resp. "newshipsw.grf"). For OpenTTD, you should use the DOS version, for TTPatch you'd have to use either the DOS or the Windows version, depending on the type of your original TTD game.

Current version of the NewShips Set is 0.48 as of november 10th, 2010, Grf-ID is 6D 62 00 04 (unchanged).

Parameters

The NewShips set v0.48 has two parameters:

The NewShips set v0.48 replaces the original "Ship depot" with the new "Floating dock". In case you don't want to use the floating dock it's possible to keep the ship depot by supplying the first parameter a value of "1".

The NewShips set v0.48 also replaces the original "Hovercraft" with the "de Mol inland vessel", especially suited for canals and rivers. In case you don't want to use canals or rivers, and/or you don't have any need to use inland vessels, it's possible to keep the Hovercraft and to not use the "de Mol" inland vessel by supplying the first parameter a value of "2".

The second parameter defines a multiplicator for the ship's capacities. It must be in the range 1 .. 4, resulting into total capacities of 360, 720, 1080, 1440, e.g.

TTDPatch

Just copy the appropriate NewShips newGRF file into the "newgrf" directory under your TTD main directory and add the entry "newgrf/newships.grf" resp. "newgrf/newshipsw.grf" to your "newgrf.cfg" file.

You'll need TTDPatch version 2.5 Beta 9 (or higher) to run the NewShips set.

Variables to set in ttdpatch.cfg

You need to set following variables in the "ttdpatch.cfg" file:

Setting parameters

Parameters have to be added to the newGRF's entry in file "newgrf.cfg":

Please note that it is possible to combine selections for the first parameter, e.g.:

OpenTTD

Installation and setting parameters is done by using the "newGRF Settings" window:

Incompatible newGRFs

Since 0.48 allows to set cargo capacity multipliers directly by parameter, following newGRFs, overriding capacity properties of prior releases of NewShips are incompatible with 0.48:

Refittable cargoes are shown in yellow for ECS, in blue for FIRS, else original TTD.

Acknowledgements

The availability of new vehicles was only possible by the outstanding work of Josef Drexler and Marcin Grzegorczyk on TTDPatch. In particular I'd like to express my gratitude to Josef for the fruitful collaboration during further developing TTDPatch.
