AlpineClimate

A new Scenario for TTDPatch

by Michael Blunck

April 2005

Version 0.2 - May 1st, 2006

What is the AlpineClimate?

The AlpineClimate is a combination of TTD´s sub-arctic and temperate climates. Its key element is a variable snow line giving the impression of seasons: In autumn, the snow line declines and everything above it (ground, trees, buildings, industries) will be shown snow-covered until in spring the snow line rises again and everything gets back to normal.

This (alpha) version of the AlpineClimate re-implements all TTD original temperate buildings and industries including their original animations. In fact, it´s a 1:1 copy of the temperate climate with all its buildings, cargoes and industries but on the basis of the arctic climate. (I.e. the landscape will be mountainous and cities above snow line will need food to grow.)

In a second version (to be released at a later date) the original TTD buildings will be exchanged into buildings of a more authentic "alpine" (austrian and swiss) style.

How to install the AlpineClimate?

Preliminaries

The AlpineClimate is available in a DOS ("alpine.zip") and in a Windows version ("alpinew.zip"). Just copy the files from the appropriate alpine .zip file into the "newgrf" directory under your TTD main directory and add the names of the .grf files to your "newgrf.cfg" resp. "newgrfw.cfg" file.

You´ll need TTDPatch version 2.5 beta 3 (or higher) to run the AlpineClimate.

The actual version of the AlpineClimate is 0.21 (grf-ID is 6D 62 07 00) and it´s of May 18th, 2006.

What components are included into the AlpineClimate package?

Supplying parameters to the AlpineClimate

Currently there are no parameters to be used with the AlpineClimate.

Variables to set in ttdpatch.cfg

Set compatibility

The AlpineClimate is fully compatible with NewStations v0.4, i.e. stations above snowline will be shown with snowy graphics and those below snowline will include correct temperate ground tiles.

Furthermore, the AlpineClimate´s industries and cargoes are fully compatible with those of the NewCargo set.

Also, the DB Set XL v.0.82 is fully compatible with the AlpineClimate.

For more information and progress of the project please check out the AlpineClimate page on www.ttdpatch.de.

Missing buildings/industries

At the moment, not all of the temperate buildings and industries have been re-implemented to show the snowy effects or their original animations. The missing ones are:

These will be added ASAP.

Specialities

Farm fields within the transition area of the varying snow line will be "destroyed" when being under snow, i.e. their fences will get removed as well. These fields are rebuilt again in spring/summer.

Any farm with buildings under snow will stop its production completely, even if there are still snow-free fields belonging to that farm. Production will be re-established when the farm buildings get free of snow again, regardless of its fields state.

Known Bugs

None so far.

Acknowledgments

The availability of new graphics was only made possible by the outstanding work of Josef Drexler and Marcin Grzegorczyk on TTDPatch. In particular I´d like to express my gratitude to Josef for the fruitful collaboration during further developing TTDPatch.

The "newhouses" and the "newindustries" patches, which are of vital importance for the AlpineClimate, were written by Csaba Varga. I´d especially like to express my gratitude to him for his additional help amd those many discussions about all these wonderful new features he wrote for TTDPatch.
